Florida was the location of my first ever photography workshop, an immersive experience that took place over 4 days. Each day consisted of sunrise and sunset shooting sessions, with afternoon instruction on post-processing in-between. It was a challenge waking up at 4 a.m. every day, but worth the effort. With the majority of time spent on the beach, waves and water effects were the main attraction (read on past the gallery below for more on the latter), but I also took time to look the opposite direction, as well as up close to capture small scenes.
Shutter Excitement
Being on the ocean provided the opportunity to experiment with different water effects by adjusting camera shutter speeds. The first image below shows how the water can be "frozen in time" and look more textured using faster speeds, while the second example shows how slower speeds make it look more smooth/blurred. Longer exposures consisting of several seconds lend a foggy/misty appearance, as demonstrated in the third image.
