“Painting is not making paintings, it is a development of awareness.”
- Agnes Martin
While photography and digital art have been my primary creative pursuits in recent years, my roots are in fine art, and there is still nothing quite like working with real paint and brushes. The STAX series of abstract works on paper are a renewal and remix of themes explored during my graduate studies in art in the early 1980s. Content is reduced to simple geometric shapes in tension with each other and the painterly space they inhabit. Success lies in eliciting an emotional response through the expressiveness of pure colors, shapes, and textures. As a process, it’s about developing my creative awareness, as intimated by the Agnes Martin quote.
